the dolby digital plus 5.1 surround track is equally solid, although a few scenes could use more low-end oomph. dialog is clean and clear, with pleasant natural sounds that are clearly defined. effects are not exceptionally well-rendered, but are otherwise natural-sounding and well-balanced. there are a few moments of noticeable distortion, especially on the front surrounds. the only weak spot in the track is on one of the rewind scenes where the audio seems to get lost in the sound mixing.
'the three stooges' (blu-ray) comes packaged with a pair of hd-dvd and blu-ray copy of the featurette, 'the three stooges (2012)' as well as a downloadable digital copy. the disc commences with a retrospective look at the film's legacy and features vintage clips, voice-overs and a series of interviews. the disc also includes a 25-minute featurette, 'the three stooges: a musical journey' that covers the making of the featurette, the origins of the stooges as a comedy act, their legacy and how they were produced.
the dts-hd master audio 5.1 surround track is a bit more polished and involving than the mono lpcm option, but it still seems to be missing some bass and surround activity during a couple of sequences. dialogue is smoothly-recorded and easily heard, with pleasant natural dialog and effects, but not up to the standards of the previous blu-ray releases. the dolby digital plus 5.1 track is a bit more energetic than the 5.1 surround, and offers plenty of low-end oomph. the track is clear and clean, with pleasant natural sounds that are clearly defined.
after the box office failure of 'the three stooges' with harold lloyd in 1935, moe howard and larry fine, the two brothers who were the stooge stars, took the film to a garage on long island, and the three stooges were born. along with their trademark slapstick humor, the stooges enjoyed a long successful career, and in fact, they were the most successful comedy team of all time. the stooges were directed by edward bernds, g.p. hunt and jules white, and they appeared in 76 films. d8a7b2ff72
one of the main talking points of the movie is the stooges' new makeup, which was achieved using blackface and appears quite obvious. the stooges have yellow hair, and larry david is filmed in a yellow contact lens. curly is a dark-skinned black man, moe is a dark skinned italian and larry is a light-skinned hispanic. in fact, the film actually has quite a few weird racial jokes, which are in places particularly grating. one example, of course, is when larry david is punched in the face by the brother of one of his fellow party guests. the other party guest turns to the camera and tells him, "you're gonna have to apologize to him, larry. you called him a nigger." a few moments later the man pummels the stooges, but everyone just watches on as if they're not a part of the scene.
like all the films, 'the three stooges' is a misfire and while it's certainly not as bad as the majority of the material that's been released on blu-ray, it is disappointing. if it wasn't for its unique personalities and a few good scenes, i wouldn't even be mentioning it. it doesn't have the charm of the previous 'stooges' movies and it's not as good as the curly howard/moe howard individual stooges. and it's certainly not as good as the best of the ten stooges films. still, if you love the stooges, it's worth a look.
the stooges were known for their slapstick comedy. their slapstick comedy inspired the three stooges film series of the 1930s. in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the classic three stooges shorts were re-released to the public on laserdisc in a set called "the complete three stooges collection." this is the first time in the history of the medium that a series of film shorts has been released in one box set. the set includes the following three stooges films: for sissies oh, my lawdy hold that pose
