If you are looking for a cheaper version of this card, check out this PCI card from Creative called the Sound Blaster X-Fi (Xonar PCI (2.0)). I’ve had a few games such as C&C4:Reboot (Warhead), Burnout 3: Takedown, The Longest Journey and COD4 work very nicely, I’m sure they would work fine with this card if you were to use them. This card though is capable of giving the card it’s more reliable brother (the Sound Blaster X-Fi MB) a run for it’s money.
However, I do recommend that you grab the high end version. It’s bigger, uses a better power supply, and offers far better performance (if you’re gaming and listening at the same time). The more expensive version also has a higher wattage power supply and better components.
I used my X-fi that came from the white box package and it worked flawlessly with windows 7, no driver needed at all. I have a asus P5B Deluxe motherboard. I really wanted to find out what all the fuss was about so i bought a 14 dollar sound card. For some reason i am unable to find out if creative has a dvd out sound card back, however if they do you should be able to find it like this exact same sound card without actually having to pay the additional wood.
It was never a driver issue for me. I have a Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS which uses ALC8900 codec and had to install the latest ALC899 driver. Vista will give you a window to specify that you want to use the new driver, everything worked perfectly from that point on. If you are using Vista Ultimate and want to use sound, it could be that you will be asked to install Vista Service Pack 1 or Windows 7.
I have the X-fi sound card and the Sound blaster X-fi MB, On that O/S i had install MANY fonts, still does not display the regular fonts. Quickly, after installing this program, the other fonts came out.
The only problem that I have with this card is that it does not have the "pulse" button and when I play some mp3s with it, it does not play them with full volume. I have to use it in a DAC mode so that it will play the mp3s with the volume. ed3faa56471
