56. Fathers and mothers of families, family life is fundamental to the Churchs mission of forgiveness. A family in which forgiveness is not practised is eternally exposed to the risk of becoming intolerant, of adopting an attitude which leads to acts of revenge, and even to crimes. The Church, through the example of the Holy Family, models to the world a style of living which is infinitely richer than what is generally found on the market. This lifestyle is fruitful of good and of life. It starts with the forgiveness of one's own faults, with an open heart, towards others. The Holy Family shows us the way of religious and moral perfection. A new type of human being who possesses a new set of feelings has come into the world; such a person can only respond to God by being sensitive to the needs of others and by living with a heart of truth and love. Here are three words which are close together: truth, love, and forgiveness. These are the three virtues of a man who listens to God: what the man hears from God in the sacrament of penance leads him to a light free from hatred, to the road of love, and to the humble road of forgiveness; the man who has encountered God fully, and his acts are revealed to the world and described in the Gospels, becomes a teacher of that same truth.
269. We said earlier that the message of salvation by grace works through love. We find this true, also, for the dignity of the human person, since it always has the capacity for good and can always pursue the good. This capacity can be satisfied in the family, the family of God, to which the Good News is evangelized and to which the Church is the fruit of God s love. This love goes beyond that of the biological family, that is, fathers and mothers and the children who are born of them, and extends to grandparents, the rest of the relatives and also to those who have no natural ties to us, but whom we include in our heartfelt love, nourishing their goodness and bestowing on them the goodness that is our own. d8a7b2ff72
163. The Church’s fundamental vocation is to evangelize the world. At the heart of this vital mission stands the task of proclaiming the Gospel; evangelization, in fact, must always be closely linked to proclamation of the truth (cf. Lk 4:16-25). Christian proclamation must always be clearly identified with truth itself; it should be grounded in the Church’s faith in God who is Creator of all. The proclamation of the word is the way to salvation and is therefore a communal task. The proclamation of the Word of God is as much a duty for the Church as the celebration of the Eucharist or the profession of the faith in baptism. It is incumbent on the Church to go to the people, to listen to their problems and concerns, to meet with them and to help them to understand and to love their God and themselves. The whole of life is to be lived within the context of God’s saving love, and Christian ministry is always placed in the service of love. Here, too, the Church has two paths: one of asceticism and the other of ministry (Lk 9:23-27).
274. The same attitude characterizes God himself. When he wanted to free the people of Israel from their enslavement, he sent Moses and Aaron to lead them, armed with the word of truth and empowered by the Spirit of truth. He did this because he loved Israel (cf. Dt 10:20; Psa 2:4). No one can fail to see that God shows the same love towards us sinners, and that he looks on us with deep affection. If we get to know him better, we can glimpse the face of his tenderness when he receives us in a deeper way.
