There is plenty of evidence that cognitive training can benefit older adults' cognitive function (see reviews by Ballard, Spitznagel, and Pezawas & Owen (2017) and Snowdon and Redick ( 2017). However, those interventions tend to focus on improving cognitive abilities that are already declining with age (e.g. working memory, executive function, and crystallised intelligence). In contrast, several studies have also found that targeting cognitive abilities that are spared by (or remain relatively stable with) age (inhibitory control, fluid intelligence, and receptive vocabulary) can benefit older adults. The EC TCN's primary aim is to increase the number of independently administered cognitive training interventions available to older adults. It will complement this by establishing a coordinated approach to evaluating these interventions. The EC TCN will also facilitate the delivery of publicity and reminders to existing and future participants, and will keep current participants updated on the project's progress and future research directions. Past Participants: To date the EC TCN has enabled all the following interventions to be delivered independently: • Quiet Revolution • Broder Self-Control Training • Mindwaves • Whyzun The TCT has enabled some of each of the following interventions to be delivered independently: • Elytra • Strengthen • Creativity. Benefit • Positive Gaming (primarily conducted by ADAS). More information can be obtained from their website (see below).
