unfortunately, i never finished it. i didn't feel like i had the energy to do it, and i was just going to turn the project in for the time being. a few years later, i was working with the guys at the poxbox on mr. needleman & co. and we were talking about what we wanted to do with it next. the guys at poxbox are also really good friends of mine, so we've been working together on a few different projects over the years. we started talking about how much we loved working on abobo's big adventure, and how much we wished we could just make a sequel to it with abobo as the protagonist. but not only that, but a sequel where we get to go back to the nes games that inspired us to begin with. as we started to talk about it, we realized that we wanted to make a game that was an all-out tribute to the nes, and that's how abobo's big adventure 2: arcade frenzy was born.
the original abobo's big adventure was a short, seven game side-scroller that couldn't have been more than a year or two of work. but at the same time, we wanted to do something that would have a much longer development time than abobo's big adventure itself, in order to get the most accurate tribute possible. it was a difficult task, but we decided to take a few months to really dig into the games and try to get them perfect, so that we could take the time to get the tribute right. and in the end, we were able to pull it off.
so let's take a look at a few of the highlights from abobo's big adventure 2: arcade frenzy. the first and foremost is probably the most obvious one. abobo as a main character. while abobo may not be the most famous nintendo character, he's certainly one of the most interesting ones. he's a strong hero, a big loudmouth, a bit of a scoundrel, and always a bit of a smartass. in a way, he's a perfect fit for a tribute game, as he can be funny, he can be serious, and he can be absurd at the same time. he's also just incredibly badass, so while he's no longer the muscle-bound buffoon that he was in the original game, he can still beat the hell out of you if you get in his way. the second most obvious one is the retro engine. 42d8ba546e1
