This movie is a perfect example of a film that shows many facets of a particular subject matter. It portrays people ranging from wonderfully kind to downright cruel, just as the god of the movie is portrayed by a wonderfully charming man with a winsome wit and a charismatic charm. It's a whimsical, funny and light-hearted documentary about a very serious subject. The characters are all likable and believable and the transitions are seamless. He's raw, animated, has a keen sense of humor and is always raising issues and making pointed comments, all of which are tied into the central thesis of the film. He never tries to reason with the misconceptions of the god of the movie, as the god is by far more interested in making a point than he is in proving a point. It works because he's not in the business of proving his point, but in the business of showing us what a god he is and how he is!
The movie has a surprisingly wide appeal in spite of its British B-movie title. It does a good job of portraying and explaining many interesting and historical aspects of religion, including a practical discussion of the role of the Pentecostal movement in Western culture.
The Gods Must Be Crazy 2 (1988). Director: Jamie Uys. Starring: N!xau, Jeff Nyambo. A stunning, and in many ways, profound story about an African with a don't-ever-go-back-home attitude towards a life of Western civilization.
When we arrived at the theater to see the movie, we didnt have to buy tickets and the lights went out. We could hear people laughing through a loud speaker. Those were probably not godly people. I sure didnt mind because what was more important than seeing a movie? After all, the day was warming up nicely and I was feeling warm and snug in my seat. d8a7b2ff72
The movie started and we were immediately astounded by the imagination and creativity that the filmmakers had employed in the story. On the screen, a religious group was in the process of delivering a message to an audience. We watched the film in absolute silence until the group began to speak. But it wasnt a church sermon. It was a miracle. A person walked on stage and began to speak and the sounds of what he said were interrupted by a bizarre image behind him. The movie was great, and the man on stage continued speaking in another strange way. A third and then a fourth man came up on stage, each speaking differently with images to help clarify each speaking point. The fourth man was particularly noteworthy because he had a long beard and the background behind him was a rock and he was wearing a t shirt, ripped jeans, and boots. He looked like a million dollar mean mofo!
Each voice was similar in that they all began to speak of the world as being a place where the true Gospel of Jesus Christ is rarely if ever preached. As we left the movie theater, we saw two men in coats and ties, and we knew that these were probably going to be the fathers of our friend, and they were. When I told him the story, he asked if he should go to the meeting that evening. I told him yes, but that if he went home first, he should walk on the back of his mother?s lawn and close his eyes because we would be coming home from his fathers home.
The next morning my friend was nervous and seemed quite curious as to what his fathers reaction would be to his conversion. He had become the world?s biggest Christian. And his father was either going to be full of praise for this conversion or he was going to be angry at this unexpected late hour of conversion!
