while there are a number of differences between the two games, the biggest is the change in control scheme; sonic adventure 2 employs a gameplay style that is largely similar to that of the 3rd game. there are also other differences between the two games. the chateau zone in sonic adventure 2 has become the hotel zone in sonic heroes, and a number of new zones have been introduced. sonic also lacks his iconic ring, and instead wears a new emblem of a fox, which is one of his trademarks. knuckles also has his normal black and red spiked armour and sonic's head is black, his body is blue, and his feet are green. knuckles is also seen to be in a somewhat aggressive mood, as he constantly shouts at his opponents in this game, and his fighting style is more like dr. robotnik's than before.
the opening of sonic adventure 2 starts off with a hyper sonic jetfly, which allows for a quick ascension to the white space. the screen then zooms out to reveal sonic, as he jumps to multiverse. after the first minute or so of the game, the hedgehog can be seen jumping to the 4th dimension in a repeated fashion, showing his bravado as he comes to protect the multiverse. the screen then zooms back in to the opening text screen, which then displays text about the game's plot, as well as directing the player to a page on the official sonic adventure 2 website.

sonic adventure 2 is a side-scrolling action/adventure game originally released for the nintendo gamecube in 2001. unlike super mario bros. 2, sonic adventure 2 is not a direct sequel to sonic & knuckles. but it is a prequel in the context of the story. in this game, players play as sonic the hedgehog and his companions amy, knuckles and tails, trying to save their world from the monsters called dr. eggman. it also features two new levels and three new bosses. there are eight different difficulties, ranging from easy to hard. players can choose to play and view the game with one, two or all four of their possible companions. there are three language options, including english, japanese and spanish. note: this release uses 3d-space, a shmup clone of the original sonic adventure 2 released in 2001.
