During Shabda sakhi puja , which is performed once in a while, a devotee recites an old hymn about the Goddess. This hymn includes the details of the Goddess Her favorite color, and what food and drink She prefers. This hymn is called the Vighnasakhara. Devotees are called Shodanam or Shodhana devotees to perform this puja. During the puja, the entire set up is made and blessed using special Mantras. After blessing the set up with Mantras, Bhuta-kapa is given to the person to be sanctified or otherwise devotee for being blessed with the Mantras. After the chanting of the Mantras a small ritual involving dousing the devotee and the set up with water is performed. The final step of this puja ritual is to put Him on the set up. After completing the puja rituals, the set up is prepared to be cleaned, sorted and stored in a suitable space.
Practically every Hindu festival revolves around the Devi. It is only when you say ‘Devi Puja’, the Vrat of a certain Devi is performed. For example, during ‘Aakhri Shukla Dosh O Diya-di-Aakhri Puja’ (a new moon night puja) every new moon night an orthodox Puja is performed. If Kali Puja is not performed by an orthodox Puja (Andhra) then an orthodox Puja can be performed only during certain parts of Kali Puja (West Bengal and Orissa). If, in the state of Orissa, only the south Kaliamata Puja is performed, if in West Bengal only the north Kaliamata Puja is performed and if in the state of Andhra, only the bhapuri Puja is performed.
During the puja it is necessary to get things picha (sacred, dedicated) such as Sthan (put on) and Pustak (incense) and items like Drishti (Agni) and Ganesha’s idol etc. This is because these items and the idol have certain energies and with which they generate specific powers. These items have to be dedicated to the Deity, with a definite Mantra and in a consecrated way. The items are either immersed or merely touched or waved with the Mantra or is immersed on the Idol by sprinkling water on it. The water is from a river or a tank, where the water is reserved for the purpose. After this process, it is traditional to throw out the water. d8a7b2ff72
