I loved the first Cars comic book. I even liked the first film. In fact, I liked the first film so much that I wanted to see every Cars film that has come out since 2003. So, I was really looking forward to Cars 2. Unfortunately, this didn't live up to my expectations. I found the characters of Lightning McQueen and Cruz Ramirez to be boring and lackluster. They just didn't have much of an impact on me. The romance between them just came off as juvenile and irritating. The plot of the film just seemed to just come out of nowhere for the most part. Not once did it feel like a typical Cars film. Once the romantic plot came along, it just seemed to drag on and on. I could almost feel the whole movie just drag on and on. Even the spy cars were just annoying. I tried to like the anti-hero character but he just wasn't memorable or special at all to me. The bad guy was another disappointment too. He was a very stereotypical character with no redeeming quality whatsoever. Mater was Mater. Sir, I don't even remember his name. The only character that I found to be worth rooting for was Cruz Ramirez. The other characters were just weak garbage. The CGI in Cars 2 was extremely well done. They even gave the cars an updated look and improved on a lot of things. For example, they added the spoilers as part of the cars' design which looked cool and set up their varying appearance much better. The waterways were also a really nice touch. Yeah, I guess it did distract me a little bit from the spy cars.
With our last movie, I promised that I would try to review all our movies. No comments, full disclosures, and no way to deflect would be made. No way. So, I'm afraid we are going to have a couple of reviews that are seriously missives and not reviews at all. Let me just say I stand by the previous review and I'm gonna be as open and honest and 100% candid with this review as I was with the last, and that is coming from a “convinced naysayer.” No matter what you think of Cars. I have been a fan since I was a little boy. Pixar goes into the movie business with 2 thoughts in mind…make movies that people want to see and make movies that make money. This is the standard “How to Spoil a Chihuahua”. This is the intellectual property of Don Bluth, [Director of movies like An American Tail, The Land Before Time, your favorite cartoons, etc., as Batm is considered the Walt Disney of Gasoline Alley.] It's got limited possibilities for the imagination, since its’ is a thoughtless, formulaic cartoon, with no artistic quality and will fail as such. You may as well blame the fact that Bluth isn't a real artist for his thoughtless work. Fine, since I'm only focusing on the Cars films, you can blame Bluth, who created the film, but Bluth can't be faulted for the work of incredibly talented artists like Todd Black, who created the Cars films. So, John Lasseter and the artists involved bear much, if any, of the blame for this movie. The most political thing they can do is make it, and they did make it. Between the bad look, bad story, bad acting, poor production, etc. this is ironically the worst of all our Vanellope movies. It's awful. So awful, it's brilliant. ed3faa56471
